Glenlohane is a privately run Country House providing overnight accommodation for guests in Co Cork IrelandDesmond and Melanie run an extremely private house with an air of friendly informality. There are no public signs to draw the attention of casual visitors. Guests have the run of the entire house as if they were staying with friends. There are family dogs in the background and animals play a large part of life at Glenlohane. Apart from farm animals, there are also ponies, horses, fantail pigeons and bantam hens.

Glenlohane is not a hotel or professional guest house – there is no reception desk or public bar. Rather, it is a very comfortable home that takes guests by pre-arrangement. It is for the discerning visitor who wishes to learn more about Ireland’s history and culture through personal contact with the owners.

There are two twin bedded and one double bedroom and one single bedroom available to guests. All bedrooms have their own shower and/or bath.

Usually hosted by Desmond, guests sit at a single table in the dining room. There is also a large drawing room as well as a library for browsing on a wet day. Although log fires are used in the winter months, the house is fully heated all year and is most comfortable.

This area of the upper Blackwater Valley is fertile rolling land with large trees, streams, woods and glens. The River Blackwater, only three miles away, is the premier river in the south for salmon and trout fishing. Coarse fishing is also available. Arrangements for Salmon Fishing should be made in advance.

This can be a golfer’s paradise as there are 17 eighteen hole courses within an hour’s drive. Advanced booking is necessary for the championship courses but accessibility to the country courses can generally be more spontaneous.

From Kanturk, R576 towards Mallow. Bear left on R580 towards Buttevant. First right towards Ballyclough. First residential entrance on left after 1 mile. Watch for green and white Glenlohane Bird Sanctuary signs in trees. In the interests of privacy, there are no public sign posts.
